Ronnie Dale The term ‘Driving Instructor’ conjures up visions of patient but harassed professionals in small saloons on suburban streets coping with nervous first timers behind the wheel or even the occasional tantrum. Ronnie doesn’t drive a neat saloon, his local streets are covered with mud and rocks; they climb up to the sky at impossible angles before plunging down to cross a swollen river, his 4x4 shrugging off seemingly impossible tasks with apparent ease. Ronnie is a farmer so off-road driving comes naturally. When he was younger he successfully rallied a Ford Escort but it was in 1986 when training for the Camel Trophy that he first had the idea of building on off-road training school. Gaining qualifications as a Ministry of Transport Driving Instructor, an RAC Instructor and a Agricultural Training Board Instructor, he set aside 25 acres of unproductive hill land to build the basic training area. Nearby forest tracks were upgraded to form the adventure trail and the nearby beach was earmarked for further skills and adventure and The Ronnie Dale Driving School opened. Since then Ronnie has kept right at the front of the industry, working with Vauxhall, Ford and Appleyard Landrover to provide driver training and demonstrations. He has appeared on television programmes like Top Gear, You Bet! and Blue Peter. Organisations such as the Police, mountain rescue teams, The Countryside Commission and Scottish Power rely on him for driver training.
